O endereço IP da classe A significa: no número de quatro partes do endereço IP (por exemplo: byte 1.byte 2.byte 3.byte 4), o primeiro número da peça (byte 1) é o número da rede, as três partes restantes números (byte 2.byte 3.byte 4) são o número do computador local. Se o endereço IP for expresso em binário, o endereço IP da classe A consistirá em um endereço de rede de 1 byte e um endereço de host de 3 bytes, e o bit mais alto do endereço de rede deverá ser '0'.
